AC Milan boss provides shocking Liverpool admission ahead of Champions League clash

The manager of AC Milan, Paolo Fonesca, stated that their Champions League matchup will not be affected by Liverpool’s defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest.

The Reds lost against Forest for the first time since the Arne Slot era began. Following victories over Brentford, Manchester United, and Ipswich, they lost 1-0 to Nuno Espirito Santo’s team at Anfield. The lone goal came from Callum Hudson-Odoi in the 72nd minute.

Liverpool’s Champions League campaign kicks off against Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday night (20:00 BST), so they will need to make quick progress. After a challenging start to the season, the Rossoneri easily defeated Venezia 4-0. Fonesca, who took over in the summer, was relieved of some of the early strain when all four goals were scored in less than thirty minutes.

The Milan manager, however, is not taking his team’s victory too personally and maintained that Liverpool is “one of the best clubs in Europe.” Speaking at his press conference following the game (via @MilanPosts on X): “I enjoyed the enthusiasm we had right away. We had some successful offensive plays. There are times when we push things too far; those are the occasions when we need to wait to strike.

Triumphs invariably confer confidence. One thing is for certain, the players are all motivated when we play teams like Liverpool. When we play against opponents like Venezia, it becomes problematic. The attitude shown today worried me more than the one against Liverpool. About Tuesday’s demeanor, I’m not upset. Liverpool is among the greatest clubs in Europe, so it doesn’t matter that they lost today; they are still a formidable team.”
